Long Course Weekend Itinerary

PROPOSED SCHEDULE*

 

FRIDAY 27 OCTOBER – The Jervis Bay Swim Classic

9:00am – 2:00pm – Registration Open

Athlete’s collect their race number/goodie bag and will be required to produce photographic identification when registering.

All athletes competing in the Long Course Weekend category and swim legs must be registered by 2:00pm.

Athletes competing in bike and run legs may register also.

2:45pm – Start Pen Closes

All athletes must move into the start pen in preparation for the safety briefing and race start. Any athlete not in the pen by 4:15pm will not be allowed to race.

Long Course Weekend competitors will start at the front of the swim pen.

The LCW athletes will start first followed by the remaining 3.8km swimmers who are standing behind them. Then the 1.9km swim, 1.5km swim and 750m swim will follow.

Athletes will swim to the coloured swim buoys which match their swim caps and starting balloon. For example, the 1.5km swim will have yellow swim caps, start at the yellow balloons marked 1.5km and swim to the yellow swim buoys. All courses are of triangular shape and athletes keep their coloured swim buoys on their left.

  • The 3.8km swim is two laps of the red swim buoys
  • The 1.9km is one lap of the red swim buoys
  • The 1.5km swim is two laps of the yellow swim buoys
  • The 750m swim is one lap of the yellow swim buoys

2:50pm – Swim Briefing

All athletes must attend the pre-race safety briefing held in the Starting Pen.

3:00pm – THE JERVIS BAY SWIM CLASSIC

Athletes will enter the water and begin a one (or two lap swim for 3.8km) swim. Any athlete participating in the 3.8km swim taking longer than one hour to complete the first lap will not be allowed to begin the second. 

4:05pm – First Lap Cut Off Time for 3.8km swim

The cut off time for the first lap.

5:10pm – Race Cut Off Time

The cut off time for the race.

6:30pm onwards – Beer at the Pub party. Sausage sizzle and pot.

After the swim athletes are encourage to ‘meet us at the pub’ for a sausage sizzle and a beer at the Husky Pub.  Here we will announce the fastest swim times and the top 20 male and female athletes competing in the LCW section of the event.

 

SATURDAY 28 OCTOBER – The River Ride Cycle Classic

5:00am – 6:30am – Registration 180km riders

180km riders must register between these times, unless they have already registered on Friday.

6:00am – 7:30am – Registration 90km riders

90km riders must register between these times, unless they have already registered on Friday.

6:30am – 8:00am – Registration 40 and 20km Riders

40km and 20km riders must register between these times, unless they have already registered on Friday.

7:00am – FIRST BIKE WAVE DEPARTS The first waves of the 180km riders leave in 15 minute intervals. This wave is for athletes who expect to ride over 6 hours for the ride.

A cut-off for the second lap will be implemented at 11:00am.

Whilst there is a self-serve drink station on course, athletes are expected to start the race with at least two full bottles on their bike and food for the journey.

7:30am – LCW & 180KM WAVE DEPARTS

The top 20 Long Course Weekend athletes from the swim will start in reverse order down a time-trial style ramp one minute apart. After the 20th place athlete has left the remaining LCW athletes and the remaining 180km riders begin.

8:00am – 90KM WAVE

Athletes for the 90km route will start leaving in 5 minute waves.

8:30pm – 40KM and 20KM WAVE

40km and 20km athletes will begin the out and back course.

11:00am – Cut-off time for the second

This cut-off is the same for all athletes riding the 180km route.

3:00pm – Cut Off and finish time for 180km ride

5:00pm to 6:30pm – Huskisson Run Festival registration (at run finish area)

Athletes taking part in tomorrow’s run festival can register at the LCW expo and finish line area between 5:00pm and 6:30pm and can then join us at the ‘Beer at the Pub’ party.

6:30pm onwards – Meet at the Pub

After the ride athletes are encourage to head back to beautiful Huskisson and ‘meet us at the pub’ for a sausage sizzle and a drink.  Here we will announce the fastest bike times and the top 20 male and female athletes competing in the LCW section of the event.

 

SUNDAY 29 OCTOBER – The Huskisson Run Festival

5:00am – 6:30am – Registration Open for The Marathon and Half Marathon

6:00am – 7:00am – Registration Open – The 10km and 5km events

*All Huskisson Run Festival athletes MUST register on Sunday morning, unless they have already registered on Friday or Saturday afternoon.

7:00am – THE MARATHON

Athletes will begin the Marathon at 7:00am. The Top 20 athletes, male and female, will start at the front of the race followed by the LCW athletes and then the marathon runners.

The cut off time for athletes is 1:00pm (6hours)

7:15am –HALF MARATHON

Athletes will begin The Half Marathon from Main Street

7:30pm – THE 10K AND 5KM

Athletes will begin The 10km and 5km events

1:00pm – Race Cut Off Time

1:30pm – LCW Presentation

LCW finishers will be welcomed into the finish line and presented with their 4th medals dressed in their exclusive polo shirts.

The Top 3 Male and Female athletes will be presented to the athletes on stage under the finish arch for the traditional spraying of champagne.

There’s loads going on at the Long Course Weekend – with the young talent competing in TAFFKids and the professionals and amateurs challenging for the glory of being Long Course Weekend champion!

So we’ve made things simple for you… to work out where you need to be and when you can see the best of the action, simply check out of itinerary of events below. Please be aware that these details are based on the 2015 event, and will change closer to the event.

Please note: This is the registration time for Long Course Weekend athletes. Those entering individual disciplines can find registration times on the respective event websites. Details are based on the 2016 event and may change closer to the time.

Thursday 6th July

2:00 – 8:00pm – Registration Open (De Valence, Upper Frog Street, Tenby)

Only the athlete themselves may collect their race number/goodie bag and will be required to produce photographic identification when registering.

We strongly urge anyone who is able to register on Thursday to do so. This will reduce queues and give you a more relaxed weekend!

4:30 – 7:30pm – LCW Seminars Begin (De Valence Cafe, Upper Frog Street, Tenby)

We have a number of talks going on to give athletes the best advice and skills to help them have a fantastic race. Speakers will include Mark from Mike’s Bikies, Defending Champion Oliver Simon, and 4 time Ironman Champion Lucy Gossage.

Friday 7th July

10:00 – 6:00pm – Registration Open (De Valence, Upper Frog Street, Tenby)

All Long Course Weekend athletes must register before 6:00pm if they wish to participate in the event. Only the athletes themselves may collect their race number/goodie bag and will be required to product photographic identification when registering.

10:00 – 8:00pm – Race Expo (De Valence, Upper Frog Street, Tenby)

The race expo is free to enter for athletes and the general public. It will showcase specialist swimming, cycling and running exhibitors and will be a great place to check out the latest products or update your kit.

12:00pm – Radio Pembrokeshire Live In Expo (De Valence, Upper Frog Street, Tenby)

Radio Pembrokeshire will be live from 12pm in the expo at De Valence pavillion.

12:00 – 8:00pm – Sports Massage (De Valence, Upper Frog Street, Tenby)

15 – 20 minute massage sessions will be available in the De Valence pavillion.

4:00pm – Radio Pembrokeshire Live (North Beach, Tenby)

Radio Pembrokeshire start broadcast from North Beach as athletes will start to assemble.

5:00pm – Taff Kids Start (North Beach, Tenby)

The Taff Kids event begins!

6:30pm – Swim Acclimatisation (North Beach, Tenby)

All swimmers will be required to enter the water prior to the race start to acclimatise to the conditions. This is imperative for health and safety reasons. Athletes are also advised to keep active during their time in the start pen to ensure that their heart rate is above their normal resting rate prior to the swim start.

6:45pm – Start Pen Closes (North Beach, Tenby)

All athletes must move into the start pen in preparation for the safety briefing and race start. Any athlete not in the pen by 6:45pm will not be allowed to race.

6:45pm – Swim Briefing (North Beach, Tenby)

All athletes must attend the pre-race safety briefing.

7:00pm – THE WALES SWIM (North Beach, Tenby)

Athletes will enter the water and begin a one or two lap swim around Tenby’s picturesque north beach. Each lap is 1.2 miles long, and will have a one hour cut off. Any athlete participating part in the 2.4 mile swim taking longer than one hour to complete the first lap will not be allowed to begin the second.

8:00pm – First Lap Cut Off Time (North Beach, Tenby)

Saturday 8th July

5:30 – 6:30am – Registration (112 Mile Riders) (De Valence, Upper Frog Street, Tenby)

112 Mile Riders must register between these times, unless they have already registered on Friday.

5:30 – 9:00am – Registration (66 Mile Riders) (De Valence, Upper Frog Street, Tenby)

66 Mile Riders must register between these times, unless they have already registered on Friday.

5:30 – 11:30am – Registration (45 Mile Riders) (De Valence, Upper Frog Street, Tenby)

45 Mile Riders must register between these times, unless they have already registered on Friday.

*Please note: Priority will be given to the 112 Mile Riders between 5:30-6:30am, and the 70 Mile Riders between 6:30-9:00am.

7:00am – FIRST BIKE WAVE DEPARTS (Salterns Car Park, Tenby)

The first waves of the 112 Riders leave the Salterns Car Park in 15 minute intervals. A cut-off for the second lap will be implemented at 1:30pm in Tenby close to the finish line. Whilst there are feed and drink stations on course, athletes are expected to start the race with two full bottles on their bike.

8:00am – LCW & 112 MILE SPORTIVE RIDERS LEAVE (Salterns Car Park, Tenby)

The Top 20 Long Course Weekend Athletes from the Swim will start in reverse order down a time-trial style ramp, swiftly followed by the remaining LCW Athletes and the 112 Riders as they begin a multi-lap course, spanning across 112 miles of beautiful South Pembrokeshire.

10:00am – 8:00pm – Race Expo (De Valence, Upper Frog Street, Tenby)

The race expo is free to enter for athletes and the general public. It will showcase specialist swimming, cycling and running exhibitors and will be a great place to check out the latest products or update your kit.

9:00am – 9:00pm – Sports Massage (De Valence, Upper Frog Street, Tenby)

10:00am – 66 MILE SPORTIVE (Salterns Car Park, Tenby)

Athletes for the 66 mile route will start leaving in 15 minute waves. Whilst there are feed and drink stations on course, athletes are expected to start the race with two full bottles on their bike.

12:30pm – 45 MILE SPORTIVE (Salterns Car Park, Tenby)

45 mile athletes will begin a single-lap course, spanning across 45 miles of beautiful South Pembrokeshire leaving the Salterns Car Park in 15 minute waves. Whilst there are feed and drink stations on course, athletes are expected to start the race with two full bottles on their bike.

1:00pm – First bikes expected into Tenby (Tenby)

The first bikes will be expected into Tenby at this time.

6:00pm onwards – Pasta Party (De Valence, Upper Frog Street, Tenby)

Sunday 9th July

9:00 – 11:00am – Registration Open – The Wales Half Marathon athletes ONLY (Pembroke Castle)

9:30am – Half Marathon Coaches leave

Coaches will leave for Pembroke with Half Marathon athletes and supporters

9:45am – Marathon Briefing (Tudor Square, Tenby)

9:55am – THE WALES 5K (Tudor Square, Tenby)

10:00am – THE WALES MARATHON (Tudor Square, Tenby)

Athletes will begin The Wales Marathon from Tudor Square at 10:00am and run towards Pembroke, where the Half Marathon athletes will start at midday. The cut off time for athletes is 4:00pm in Tudor Square, Tenby.

11:00am – Wales 10k Coaches Leave

Coaches will leave for Manorbier with The Wales 10k athletes and supporters

11:20am – Half Marathon Briefing (Pembroke Castle)

All athletes must attend the pre-event safety briefing.

11:40am – Half Marathon Parade (Pembroke Castle to Main Street, Pembroke)

Half Marathon Athletes leave Pembroke Castle with Samba Band for Half Marathon Parade to Start line.

12:00pm – THE WALES HALF MARATHON (Main Street, Pembroke)

Athletes will begin The Wales Half Marathon from Main Street at midday, running towards Tenby whilst taking in the spectacular scenery. The cut off time for athletes is 4:00pm in Tudor Square, Tenby.

12:30pm – First Athlete Back (Tudor Square, Tenby)

The first athlete will be expected back on Tudor Square at approximately this time.

12:45pm – Wales 10k Briefing (Approx) (Manorbier Castle, Manorbier)

All athletes must attend the pre-event safety briefing.

1:30pm – THE WALES 10k (Manorbier Castle, Manorbier)

Athletes will begin The Wales 10k from Manorbier Castle, and run towards Tenby. The cut off time for athletes is 4:00pm in Tudor Square, Tenby.

4:30pm approx – LCW Trophy Presentation (De Valence, Upper Frog Street, Tenby)

Presentations will begin after the Wales Marathon cut off.
